Vast Connections, Amazing Internships

Finding a summer internship between the first and second year of an MBA student’s experience can be stressful. Luckily, the University of Oregon has an extensive network of Duck alumni that students may reach out to in a variety of industries to land that perfect opportunity. This year Oregon MBA students were all over the globe working for such big name companies as Nike, Microsoft, Intel, Wilson Sporting Goods, and more.

The University of Oregon’s sports programs are recognized worldwide, as is its sports business-focused MBA. Through the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, Oregon MBA students specializing in sports business learn intricate details about the sports industry and the job opportunities available to them.

This summer MBA students represented the University of Oregon during internships at top sports organizations including: Endeavor, The Dynamo, Sports Singapore, Tethrow, Sacramento Kings, Seattle Storm, Baltimore Ravens, opendorse, Eugene Emeralds, SECA, and more.

Likewise, MBAs specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship enjoyed a variety of local and international experiences.

Brenna Leech, a second-year MBA candidate served as apprentice for Impact Investment Exchange. “It helped redefine my career focus and developed my cultural, financial, and personal understanding of both my own place and capital’s place in taking on growing international challenges together.”

Meanwhile, second-year MBA student Brian Gaudette was able to get his bone-broth based soup company, Captain Soup, off the ground this summer and sell his product at local farmers markets.

Other innovation and entrepreneurship MBA students interned with such companies as Defunkify, Tillamook, HNA Group, and others.

Oregon MBA students specializing in sustainable business practices sought to positively impact their careers and the environment by serving in different capacities in their internships. Second-year MBA candidate Sarah Brinker worked directly with the director of quality and sustainability at local Eugene ice cream company Coconut Bliss. There, she assessed the water, carbon, and energy impacts of coconuts. Other sustainable business practices MBA candidates interned at WayB, Nike manufacturing in Vietnam, Coast to Crest Fund, Shift Clean Energy, Spraying Systems Co., and more.

Finally, MBA students focusing in finance and securities analysis applied their coursework knowledge to internships at Intel, Microsoft, ECG Management Consultants, and others.

The University of Oregon MBA continues to give students the best opportunities to succeed. The breadth and depth of internship experiences available to Oregon MBA students are a testament to the value of earning an MBA from the University of Oregon.
